my mama bought a house in new orleans and i get to help her decorate it- using antiques.
these are some photos i took that i'm looking at for inspiration.

back and forth and back and forth- NEW ORLEANS//NEW YORK

i literally most be one of the most inconsistent bloggers ever. but with good reason (well, i hope!) i have been bouncing between new york and new orleans and new york and then new orleans again. i am currently in new orleans. i got hired to photograph a promotional calendar for a printing company in new orleans and i am getting paid for it!
exciting
anywho
here are some photos i took exploring bensonhurst brooklyn. and i had a cocktail soiree. some are blurry (lo siento!)

i'm in the south

i went home for a bit. and am still, i guess at home.
but my home spans three different states- texas, louisiana and new york.
i just got back from mississippi, visiting my grandmother. i saw my cousin who i haven't seen in around four years. which was so surreal. she had stopped being a person and just being a name and a distant memory that i could sometimes recall. she looks different than i remember her, so i took her photo. about a hundred times.

i photograph my family a lot, probably b/c they can't really tell me no. i mean, they do protest but family is family and i am constantly intrigued by them. where and how they live. the fact that they are related. that fact that they are incredibly southern.

its nice to be home but i'm starting to ache for new york city. i miss it.
though...new orleans is definitely piquing my interests for now. it also has b/c its one place that has always felt like home. but i'm starting to re-make a life here.

i got hired to shoot a calendar for a family friend's company. that is really exciting. its all photos of new orleans.

^^

sincerely,
c

another pause

so sorry for the other long pause, i went to florida!
it was great though i got sunburned.
i've decided to get a digital camera, now i just must save up the funds. in addition to a digital camera, i think i am going to buy some lights. i think these would be good investments.

here are some polariods that i've taken.

this is me on my final day of portraiture class, if you look closely, you can see some of my images
rachel comey dress

my portraiture class and teacher, in the middle of a crit.

this is me at, i guess what one could describe as my bar, moonshine. my friends play a free show every wednesday in redhook, brooklyn () and after the show, we go to the bar next door called moonshine.
i'm wearing a 3.1 phillip lim shirt, chloe sevigny for opening ceremony skirt and some tights that i've just beaten to death. that lovely wallet i'm holding, i lost later that week. it was vintage and iloved it. and i was way more upset to have lost my wallet than my credit cards and ID.

my friend bobby playing at jalopy. he's playing the rebetika, a greek style of music and intstrument. he's kind of a hoot, a little crazy but a totally hoot.

mayle dress, rachel comey bag, repetto shoes
i'm near tompkins park, outside of a diner/bar that we often frequent called odessa.

my friends inside of odessa.

at the dreamland orchestra gala, a while ago. it was held to raise money for the 4th annual jazz age lawn festival that just happened! i'll post pics soon. i need to scan some negatives.
anywho, i'm wearing a dress by sir (found it in a lovely thrift store), my friend martha (in the middle) is wearing topshop and the lovely monique is wearing '20s vintage.

martha and monique in front of a 1921 studebaker. monique always dresses like she is from the '20s. i love her. we went biking and she wore a 1920s bathing suit with slip on vans, a sweater and very very round glasses. i am going to dedicate a post in honor of our shenanigans soon.

michael arenella and his dreamland orchestra, folks!
i've never had as much fun doing the charleston. what a great conductor and singer.

the cigarette lady at the gala.

i really enjoy looking at people's polariods as well as peoples photo albums and pictures of their childhood. that's why i posted some other photos i have taken. these are great, they could've been composed better but i think they are interesting and maybe you all will enjoy these.

ta ta! i'm off to explore brighton beach with some of my russian friends. in the rain. i'm bringing my hassleblod.

my friend photographed me

sorry again for the long pause inbetween postings!
my friend marissa photographed me for her lighting class.
consider these portraits of myself and style, i guess.
most of my room is pretty much a closet. most of my money is spent on clothes anyway. but it really is something i enjoy. i've debated about tallying up the amount of money, time and effort i spend on my wardrobe and clothes but realized that that would be a rather large, scary sum and it's something i enjoy, so why try to measure what makes me happy?
it would be like trying to figure out how much time i spend on photography, it would be too large of a sum.

vintage dress
rachel comey shoes
3.1 phillip lim belt

that night, i actually had a prom themed party and a barbeque to go to. so i wore this dress, bc it seemed to fit both themes pretty well
vintage dress
repetto shoes
chinese pearls

vintage hat
porridge tank top
marc jacobs sweater
H&M skirt

me sitting in my clothing rack
a betsey johnson romper

cheap monday tank top
BOY by band of outsiders skirt

the following pictures are my favorite, as well as my favorite outfit. we just kept changing the lighting and playing around. thats the great thing about lights- you can do so much with them and they are so controlled.

lyell tank top (bought it at sample sale last week)
vintage collar/neckalce
marni skirt (also on sale!)
urban outfitters clutch
rachel comey shoes

i went this amazing thing last weekend. it ws the 4th annual jazz age lawn party, i shall post pictures probably weds! it was such great fun. i took tons of pictures and portraits. i brought out my hassleblod and ran into bill cunningham! he photographed my friend monique and myself.

see you soon!

school was busy and i am a terrible blogger

well
IM BACK!
school was rather busy and then i went home for a week to just hang out in the sunshine of texas.

so,mayle has closed! it was rather sad. i stood in line for 6 hours, thats right kids, 6 hours! i stood with one very brave soul, young, and well, we finally got in! i got there at about 11 or was it noon? and was let into the store by 5 or 6. it was a mad house, people grabbing things, trying on clothes in front of everyone. but i bought some rather nice pieces. there was one jacket i was unsure about but i bought it and i think i will rather enjoy it in fall.

here are the photos taken by young of the mayle waiting experience.

young and me. she's wearing a mayle bag. i am wearing a vintage ysl shirk, lanvin flats, boy by band of outsiders trench, fred perry shirt, my ray bans and a vintage lanvin scarf as well as my trusty school bag that used to be my mom's.

waiting to get in at mayle

the show room!

anywho and here is what i bought (well a few of what i bought) and how i was wearing it.
i bought two dresses (one isn't pictured, i brought it home to texas), a jacket (also in texas), two tops and a pair of pants.
these pants really are my new favorite trousers. first of all, they are a lovely slate blue color with smart little buttons on the cuffs.

this shirt is pinned back. it actually hangs down in the front and is rather blousey. but i thought it had a rather edwardian quality to it. so i pinned it back with bakelite pins.
mayle shirt
american apparel skirt
lanvin flats
leggings

my new favorite dress. its rather low cute, so i wear a lacey beige bra with it, that is sometimes visible.
mayle dress
vintage hermes scarf
chuck taylor shoes
american apparel tights
forever 21 sweater

sitting in my friend sterling's lobby. well, erm her building's lobby. isn't it gorgeous?

sterling's room mate was having a birthday get together. so i went from work to the party and this is what i wore.
my new favorite pants- mayle
cheap monday shirt
lanvin flats
lanvin scarf
chanel jacket

so in one week, i wore these trousers twice. i usually don't wear things twice in one week, let alone twice in one month. but i've worn these pants in the past month five times. which is a lot for me.
anywho, i had a presentation for class and i wore this.
mayle shirt (from mayle sample sale) and mayle pants
vintage locket from hannah clark.
pearls from china
sigerson morrison gladitor sandals.

i'm sad mayle is closed. to quote the leader singer of blonde redhead, Kazu Makino, says that mayle clothes are like secret weapons. and she is true. they are things you can pack on vacation, to wear for special events and know that you will look grand. mayle dresses and clothes never clutch at your body, they fall and caress. her clothing are like little pieces of art. and i always feel special when i wear them. while they are expensive, they are what fashion is meant to be- i feel special and wonderful wearing them.

.....

and now, im off to get drinks with a friend.

will post polaroids of what i've been up to probably in three or two days!

sincerely yours,
caroline
